"Groundhog Day" For Infused CoD - MLG 2K Recap
Mon 23rd Jan 2017 - 4:25pm: General
After finishing in the top 4 in the previous 2K, Infused CoD were again defeated by eventual winners Splyce, in similar fashion to last week’s tournament. Let's take a look and see how things panned out.
The final was a repeat of the previous tournament, with elevate meeting Splyce once again. We saw a rematch of Epsilon versus Supremacy, with the former taking the win as well as Aware Gaming beating Imperial (who played without an organisation in the previous tournament) once again.
Infused progressed with relative ease to the quarterfinals, beating teams Requiem and Cyclone along the way, before taking on FNATIC, who have returned to CoD scene. In what was a tough game, Infused managed to close out the match 3-2 to face Splyce again in the semi-finals.
Another top 4 placing saw Infused move up to 3rd in the Pro Points ladder with 26,705 Pro Points, overtaking Orbit who lost against Supremacy in the quarterfinals. Although the tournament did little to shake up the top of the ladder, Splyce have firmly established their place at the top of the ladder on 35,000 points, making them the top European team to beat. Elevate are in 2nd on 28,545 points. We saw a lot of movement between 10th and 17th all swapping places with each other after mixed performances in the tournament.
With the new pro points award limit now in effect, the majority of teams look set to have qualified for CWL London and Paris. With many of the teams now out of reach from the qualifying places it leaves teams on the brink of falling out of the top 16. The new change to the Pro Point ladder has been commended by many as it now places more emphasis on performing well at LAN tournaments instead of online play.
With Infused having confirmed their place CWL London they now have to perform at their best to confirm their place at MLG Atlanta and ESWC, where even more Pro Points are at stake as well as some sizeable prize pools.
